Paul van SteenselPaul van Steensel

Cape Dreams Building and Design, LLC. was founded by Paul van Steensel in 2004. Having had the good fortune of working for some of the best builders on Cape Cod for a number of years, he was exposed to many of the intricate facets of the building industry. The company has grown from building decks and replacing windows to building high end custom homes. The company continues to work with a wide range of clients with projects ranging from small bathroom renovations to some of the most complex custom homes built on the Cape. Paul founded Cape Dreams on the belief that honesty, quality, and professionalism make a lasting impression and truly distinguishes it from our competitors. Of course, these qualities aren’t necessarily chosen, they are most often inherent and simply a reflection of an individual or a teams’ core values: these are the values of Cape Dreams.

Paul was interested in construction from an early age. He spent 6 summers during high school and college cooking at a restaurant in Brewster. Prior to the seasonal restaurant opening, he helped build its decks and perform general carpentry maintenance. After attending the Marshal School of Business at the University of Southern California, he decided to move back to the Cape with the goal of eventually staring his own construction business. He now lives in Orleans with his wife and two sons and enjoys fishing, golf, hockey, windsurfing and skiing.

Cape Dreams is comprised of its own employees, designers, and subcontractors. Without the efforts and expertise of all, we would not be able to offer you the highest level of quality, service, and customer satisfaction that has led to our success. Please use the links below for information on the members of our team. All of them deserve recognition for their superior work and dedication to our customers. Without them, Cape Dreams Building and Design would not be where we are.

I’ve always loved working with my hands, especially on anything mechanical. In the 1970’s I got involved in bicycle racing and sailing. I needed to maintain and repair the bikes and boats. I enjoyed working on them almost as much as riding and sailing. This led me on the path to the Construction Industry. In the 1980’s, I worked on all sorts of projects throughout the Boston area. Rebuilding Historic North End storefronts and brownstones. As I incorporated more and more carpentry with additions and renovations my challenge was to keep the houses looking the same from the street, but opening them up to live like a modern house. It was a great learning experience. I opened my own company in 1991 which developed from smaller jobs into doing major renovations and additions in the suburbs west of Boston.

I relocated to the Cape in 2007 and started a construction company here. I met Paul Van Steensel, when he was just starting his own business. We worked on a few projects together and kept in touch over the years. Paul contacted me to see if I would be interested in working for Cape Dreams. I joined the company full time in June of 2018 as a Project Manager to help with expanding the renovation and addition side of the business.

We chose Paul van Steensel of Cape Dreams to replace our old deck and outdoor shower. His was not the lowest estimate we got, but we were impressed by his presentation and were not disappointed. Not only did he do what we wanted, but his workmanship was excellent and he finished in the time specified by our contract. It is always a pleasure to watch a master craftsman at work. I highly recommend Cape Dreams.
