Suggested Materials
There are many products
available today that we feel can truly add lasting value
to your home, reduce the amount of required maintenance,
as well as increase your home’s efficiency. The
following products are not the only products we will
use, but we recommend them because of their appeal and
their ability to withstand our harsh New England
weather. Furthermore, these are the products we use in
our own homes.
Exterior Trim:
PVC trim was introduced
to the market a few years ago and has essentially
eliminated the need to replace or repair rotted wooden
trim. It will never rot, split or peel. But perhaps the
best advantage of using PVC trim is the fact that you
don’t have to paint it PVC trimboards come in white and
replace the need to ever have to repaint your trim.
Additonally if your trim
color of choice is something other than white, PVC trim
is perfectly suitable to be painted. In fact the leading
manufacturers of PVC trim boards offer warranties with
leading manufacturers of paint companies.
Koma trimboards are the
recommended PVC trimboard of Cape Dreams. Unlike some
other PVC trimboards, Koma trimboards have a “brushed”
finish, which if left unpainted looks just like painted
white trim. Furthermore, if you do decide to paint your
trim, this finish allows for a better adhesion with
paint. These products can be viewed at:
www.komatrimboards.com.
Azek is another popular
manufacturer of PVC trimboards. Their products have a
shinier, smoother texture than Koma which some people
prefer. There products can be viewed at:
www.azek.com.
Cape Dreams feels that
it is best to see, touch, and feel these products in
person. We would be more than happy to meet with you,
show you samples of these products, and answer any
questions that you may have. Using either Azek or Koma
trim boards will truly enhance the appearance of your
house and can virtually eliminate any need for
maintenance.
Windows:
The
manufacturing of windows has made many improvements over
the years. Today’s windows are highly energy efficient,
easily opened and closed, and have many aesthetic option
from which to choose. We highly recommend Andersen
windows for their long track record of excellent
products as well as their affordability. Some of your
customers are partial to Marvin windows which are
available in many custom options. Cape Dreams encourages
our customers to do their homework when it comes to
choosing windows and doors, whether it’s to replace
what’s existing, or for their new home or addition.

A lot
of great information is available on line for both
Andersen and Marvin windows. To learn more about
Andersen Windows, visit:
www.andersenwindows.com. And for Marvin windows,
visit:
www.marvin.com.
If
you prefer, there are many showrooms available here on
the Cape for both companies. Shepley Wood Products, one
of our most recommended suppliers is located at 216
Thornton Drive in Hyannis. They have showrooms of both
Marvin and Andersen windows. Shepleys contact
information is available under the
About Us tab on our
website or you can go direct to their website:

MidCape Home Centers
also has an Andersen showroom located at 1520, rt. 132
in Hyannis. Their contact information is also available

Decking:
Mahogony
decking is one of the more popular choices on the Cape
and is now available pre-treated with a preservative
called Penofin. Cedar decking is another natural wood
decking, as is fir. However, the real progress in
decking materials has been made in the form of composite
decking. Composite decking will not rot, split, splinter
and is resistant to scratching and staining. Trex, which
can be viewed at:
www.trex.com was one of the first manufacturers of
composite decking. A lot of good information as well as
a useful deck design program is available on their
website. Another manufacturer of composite decking and
railings is weatherbest, this product can be viewed at:
www.weatherbest.com.
Correct Deck is yet another option in decking materials.
Their products can be seen at:
www.correctdeck.com.
Cape Dreams has used all of these products and has had
good response from customers with all of them. However,
a new product, ProCell decking, is our favorite. ProCell
offers the advantages of a low maintenance composite
deck with a lot of added benefits. To view these
firsthand, visit:
www.procelldeck.com.
Again, Cape Dreams encourages customers to arrange a
meeting where we can show you these decking products in
person, or bring you to a deck that we have created for
another customer.
Deck Railing
Systems:
When it
comes to what railings to use with your new deck your
options are again many and varied. Cape Dreams will
build your deck with any product you like, be it
mahogany, cedar, or a new composite. Composite railing
systems seem to be the product of choice these days
primarily due to their low maintenance factor. When it
comes to composite railings, there are many options and
we have used quite a few. The one that we encourage our
customers to use is Elk Railings. These railings have a
nicer, cleaner appearance and have had a very positive
customer feedback. Explore these products for yourselves
at: www.elkcorp.com.
