Adding on or remodeling your existing house
has countless benefits: better functionality, increased energy
efficiency, increased enjoyment, and last but not least,
added value. It goes without saying that incorporating the
right key features into your home so that it’s value
and marketability is maximized is a hot topic these days.
There are countless TV shows that demonstrate example after
example on how and why these improvements should occur.
Cape Dreams will work with you to ensure that these improvements
not only increase your home’s value, but also surpass
your highest expectations. Remodeling your existing kitchen
or bath can bring new life to your home and make it all the
more enjoyable for your family. Replacing old, drafty windows
will not only make your home’s appearance a whole lot
better, but will also increase it’s energy efficiency
and decrease it’s required maintenance.
In this section we have highlighted some of the key aspects
of home remodeling. If you have further questions about any
of the topics discussed or if you don’t find what you’re
looking for, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
Remodeling
your kitchen or bath is one of the best ways to revitalize
your home. It can be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience,
but once again we emphasize the importance to dedicate enough
time in the planning and design of your new kitchen or bath.
Dean Miller, of Ultimate Woodworks, a cabinet maker and kitchen installer of
30+ years, is a crucial member of the Cape Dreams Building and Design Team. We
work with our customers to see that all the details of the cabinets themselves,
as well as the crucial layout of the kitchen is most functional.

Cape Dreams can create a beautiful, custom designed deck that will suit your every need
and please your esthetic eye. Outdoor living spaces are truly a staple of the Cape Cod
lifestyle. A functional but attractive deck can truly revitalize your enjoyment of your
natural surroundings. Decking products have come a long way since the mainstream deck of
choice was all pressure treated lumber. Today, the options are many and quite varied.
All deck frames are constructed of pressure treated lumber or a naturally weather resistant
wood, such as Ipe. When it comes to the decking itself and the railing systems however,
you have a wide range of options.

Outdoor showers and Cape Cod go hand in hand. After a relaxing day at the beach there is
nothing better than taking a refreshing shower in the beautiful outdoors. Cape Dreams will
build to suit when it comes to your outdoor shower. We can design a shower catered to
your needs or provide you with examples of other showers we have created. The basics of
our outdoor showers consist of a pressure treated frame, composite decking, and cedar walls.
Composite decking, namely ProCell, works best when it comes to the deck surface.
It is constantly getting wet, and often does not receive much direct sunlight, however,
ProCell seems to stand up well to these conditions. For the shower walls, we like to use
natural cedar 1x6 tongue and groove. But, there are a range of other materials that you
may prefer to use.

Replacing your roof is eventually a necessary task However, doing so can truly enhance
the appearance of your home. A red cedar roof captures the traditional feel of old Cape Cod.
Also available now are pressure-treated red cedar roof shingles. These shingles will
outlast non treated roofs and create the same beautiful appearance. Architectural asphalt
shingles are the most common these days, and in many people’s opinion, the most attractive.
These shingles come in a variety of colors and styles. Visit: www.certainteed.com for
more information. Call Cape Dreams today for a free quote on replacing your roof!

Replacing old, scorched shingles with new cedar shingles will give your home a facelift
that is sure to please. Cape Dreams recommends using pre-stained shingles. These
shingles are stained at the factory and come in a variety of colors. These shingles
will last significantly longer that non-stained shingles. Visit www.maibec.com for more
information on their complete line of pre-stained shingles. If your house has clapboard
siding, a good alternative to traditional cedar clapboards is a product made
by James Hardie. The clapboard is made of a fiber cement material and looks like natural
cedar clapboards. The advantage is a low maintenance product that resists rotting and
cracking and comes with an available 15-year paint warranty. James Hardie siding is
non-combustible and comes with a limited, transferable warranty for up to 50 years.
In either case, replacing your house’s siding will add value and can significantly
decrease or virtually eliminate previously required maintenance.

Replacing old wooden trim, which is prone to rot, with new PVC trim ensures that
replacing or repairing rotten trim is a thing of the past. PVC trim will never
rot, split or peel.
But perhaps the best advantage of using PVC trim is the fact that you don’t have
to paint it! If you your house has white trim, PVC trimboards (which come in
white) will
replace the need to ever have to repaint your trim. If your house is a color
other than white, painting PVC trim is not a problem either. In fact the leading
manufacturers
of PVC trim boards offer warranties with leading manufacturers of paint companies.
Koma trimboards are the preferred PVC trimboard of Cape Dreams. These products
can
be viewed at: www.komatrimboards.com. Azek is another popular manufacturer.
Their website is www.azek.com. Cape Dreams feels that it is best to see, touch,
and feel these products in person. We would be more than happy to meet with you,
show you samples of these products, and answer any questions that you may have.
Choosing to replace your existing wooden trim with either Azek or Koma trim boards
will truly enhance the appearance of your house.
